貧困や環境により諦めてしまった成人式をもう一度。

【貧困や環境により出来なかった成人式をもう一度！】
そんな目標をかかげスタートしたプロジェクトは、
９月には、振袖の購入を目的としたクラウドファンディングにて、
154名の方から、114万円のご寄付をいただきました。
そして11月現在、8名の方の撮影会を予定しています。
プロジェクトの立ち上げからこの数ヶ月で、様々な方から成人式に対する思いや楽しかった思い出、
辛かった思い出などのお話を伺うことが出来ました。
またその中からそれぞれの生い立ちについても知り、このプロジェクトの意義を再確認しています。
自ら「毒親育ち」を公表し発信を続ける彼女は、まだ18歳でした。
18歳といえば、各家庭に成人式の案内の手紙が届き、学校でも成人式についての会話がなされたり、またその日に向けて髪を伸ばし始める方もいるでしょう。
そんななか、彼女は「自分とは関係のない世界」と、成人式で振袖を着ることを諦めました。
意を決して親元から逃げ出した彼女には、明日、また明日とくる生活への不安と金銭面での問題が重くのしかかり、とても成人式どころではありませんでした。
また別の彼女は、虐待家庭で育ちました。
「成人式は、親が子の成長をお祝いする行事」
そう考えたとき彼女は、「私は違う。私にはお祝いしてくれる家族はいない。」と感じ、成人式には出席しませんでした。
その考えに至るまでは、心の奥底で振袖への憧れに胸を膨らませていたそうです。
しかしそんな思いを胸に、振袖レンタル店にひとりで足を運ぶと、親同伴が前提のシステムや、とても手が出せない高額のレンタル料に心が折れてしまいました。
生まれた家庭で両親から、成長の祝福をされないという事実。高額のレンタル料。
彼女は憧れの振袖を着ることを諦めました。
他にも、病気で入院し成人式に参加出来なかった、振袖を借りるお金がなかった、肉親からやらなくていいと言われてしまった、そういった様々な理由で振袖や袴姿を諦めてしまった方々がいます。
行きたい場所に行く。やりたいことをやる。好きな振袖や好きな髪型を選ぶ。
人から決められるのではなく、たくさんある選択肢の中から自分の一番好きなものを選ぶ。
その当たり前の自由は、すべての人が平等に保障されるべき権利だと考えます。
このプロジェクトでは、そんな保障されるべき権利を、自身の意思にそぐわない理由で奪われてしまった方々に、もう一度選択の機会と自由を提案します。
そしてプロジェクトには、【MOBRIGHT-モブライツ-】と名付けました。
その他大勢という意味の【Mob-モブ-】と、権利という意味の【Right-ライト-】を組み合わせ、
「ひとりひとりモブではないし、たとえそうであってもみんなそれぞれの権利をもち、それぞれの人生を生きている。」
そんな意味を込めました。
成人式の撮影会は一日で終わってしまいます。
事態が大きく好転することもないのかもしれません。
しかし美容は、自尊心をはぐくむ大きな力をもっていると信じています。
これを機に、誰もが自分自身を肯定し、尊重して生きていけるように、
全力で祝福していきたいと思います。

日本美容学校を卒業し、2011年に㈱レスイズモアに入社。
都内店舗にてスタイリストとして働きながら、2019年よりMOBRIGHTを立ち上げる。

First of all, for the people who have already known about MOBRIGHT and have supported us, thank you very much from the bottom of my heart! For those who are reading this project of ours for the first time, I’m Rieko Kihara, the project representative for MOBRIGHT. 
About MOBRIGHT: 
Our project began with a belief: that all young people in Japan deserve a proper Seijinshiki* (Coming-of-age Ceremony, see description below). My peers and I believe that none of these young folks should be deprived of such an important Japanese rite of passage due to unfortunate circumstances, such as family and financial difficulty. So, we set out to provide free Seijinshiki photo shoot for young people who are somehow unable to afford one. We decided to hold a crowdfunding campaign for this mission, and very much to our surprise, we have received tremendous positive reactions and overwhelming support from so many people! Because of this, we have successfully scheduled photo sessions with 8 people as of November of this year. We were so encouraged by this first campaign, from which we have raised over 1 million yen from 150+ people in just a month, that we have decided to keep this project going.  
During these few months since the inception of this project, my team and I were fortunate enough to have heard many stories and perspectives about Seijinshiki from various people. All of these poignant voices have reaffirmed our dedication on this project. I’d like to share with you two of these stories.  
We have met a girl named Izumi, who had been sharing on social media about her experience of being brought up by “toxic parents”. At merely 18 years old, Izumi made up her mind to get out of this hazardous upbringing, and ended up escaping from her parents’ home. Even being out living alone right now, she is always living with anxiety about her daily life, and facing financial uncertainty. In the world of a normal 18 year old young Japanese girl, instead of worrying about money, she should be receiving guidance from her parents and school on how to celebrate Seijinshiki. She should also make preparation by starting to grow her hair longer, so that it would be long enough at the time of the ceremony. But to Izumi, that world is “a world unrelated to herself”. As a result, she has given up on the idea of Seijinshiki. 
Another girl we’ve met, named Lisa. Since very young, Lisa has been longing for the day when she would don the beautiful Furisode and be proud of transitioning into adulthood. But when that day came, she couldn't help but to give up these longings. Because Lisa grew up in an abusive household. She once visited the Furisode rental store in hopes that, by some fortunate chance, something would work out for her to celebrate Seijinshiki. Yet, she was disappointed by the unaffordable rental fee, the fee which would normally be taken care of by one’s parents. Seijinshiki, to many people, is an affair where one’s parents show their blessings on their child. But to Lisa, she could not relate. “It is different for me, because I have no family members who would celebrate for me,” she shared. 
We want to continue our mission because we believe that, rather than predetermined by circumstantial fortune/misfortune, everyone deserves a chance to do what they dream of doing. We also believe that beauty work has great power to foster self-esteem. Because of these beliefs, my team and I would like to continue providing free Seijinshiki services, such as Furisode fittings and ceremonial photo shoots, for those in need. We hope that, through our efforts, we could send these young people out best wishes as they proceed into adulthood.

With your support, we will not only pay for the photo sessions, but also take care of the Furisode attire fee for the people we help. Rather than limited one or two kimono choices, the young folks will be able to choose any Kimono that they like to wear. Your support will also cover everyone’s transportation cost.

About Rieko Kihara, MOBRIGHT’s project manager: 
Rieko was born in Tokyo in 1991. She graduated from NICHIBI Beauty College, and joined Less is More Corporation in 2011. She has been working as a hairstylist in Tokyo area ever since. The MOBRIGHT project was conceived by her in early 2019. 
*Seijinshiki, or the “Coming-of-age Ceremony”, is held in Japan every year to celebrate all those who have reached 20 years old, and to help them realize that they have become an adult. It is one of the most important ceremonies in young Japaneses’ lives, especially for girls. Most young adults attend ceremonies at city halls and prefectural offices. Young women celebrate this day by wearing Furisode, the most formal type of Kimono, and have many memorable pictures taken. What has been overlooked by the society is the fact that there are young people who couldn’t manage to receive such elaborate opportunity, mainly due to their less-than-fortunate upcoming.
